Dave Chapelle released a video on Instagram, the stand-up comedian stated that his contract with Comedy Central deserted him without payments for future licensing deals with ViacomCBS. Chapelle expressed concerns saying that when he left the show, he didn’t receive anything.

During an interview on Saturday Night Live in November, Dave Chapelle spoke about his great grandfather going through slavery until he was 10 years old. He used this story as an example of how things went awry on his show, Chapelle’s Show, streaming on Netflix and HBO Max. According to Chapelle, Netflix was in the wrong for streaming Chapelle’s Show without consent and left him “furious.” And Chapelle spoke with HBO regarding the show they turned down years ago when it was still in the “pitch phase.” It’s been years 14 years, with 3 seasons, since Chapelle’s Show ended.

HBO Max vs Chapelle

Before Comedy Central took in Chapelle’s Show in 2003, Dave Chapelle went to HBO to see whether they would consider taking him aboard. At this time, Chapelle was “28 years old, desperate for money, and expected to be a father.” According to Chapelle, when he came in contact with HBO about the series, they turned it down. From the video on Instagram Chapelle released, he stated that the hit show is available for streaming on HBO Max through a deal with ViacomCBS. However, HBO Max and WarnerMedia haven’t responded to request for comments regarding the matter.
