Why RDJ Made Millions More than His MCU Co-Stars

How did Robert Downey Jr. Make Millions More than His Co-Stars from Avengers: Endgame?

RDJ played an incredible move by using his persuasive skills during his salary negotiations for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Rather than go through the original route of settling in with a flat fee, RDJ was given a choice to receive a percentage of the film’s profits. Although many actors have gone this path before, not many agree with it because they do not know if the film they star in is successful enough to make major profits for themselves. However, RDJ took a leap of faith in the franchise and agreed to receive a percentage of the profits.

Without any guarantees whether the films can profit for the actor, RDJ believed that the movies would be major hits and literally placed a bet on his salary. The Hollywood Reporter announced Robert Downey Jr. amassed $75 million from Avengers: Infinity War from his percentage of the film’s profits alone. How RDJ was able to make that much was because the film grossed over $2 billion worldwide. With Avengers: Endgame raking in around $2.8 billion in the box office, making the film the highest-grossing film of all time, which should make him more than Infinity War.

After Avengers: Endgame, What’s Next for Robert Downey Jr.?

After receiving enormous paychecks from his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is hard to see RDJ go back to the indie-film world again. RDJ appeared as Dr. John Dolittle in the film Dolittle, released in January 2020.

After the end of Tony Stark’s story arc in the MCU, it doesn’t mean that we won’t see Tony Stark appear ever again. Another addition to the MCU is the Black Widow film is slated to release in May 2021, starring Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as the Black Widow, will feature RDJ reprising his role as Tony Stark. Hopefully, we will see more of the Tony Stark we know and love on the big screen again.
