The History Channel struck gold (and silver) in 2009 when they started airing Pawn Stars, starring a lovable cast of pawn master… and Chumlee. The Chum has had his moments, and he’s making a killing as a real-life candy man (Chumlee’s Candy On The Blvd.), but the story and most interesting nuggets of knowledge come from the Harrison family members, Rick, Corey, and “The Old Man” (RIP).
But despite being in the pawning game for several decades, there are times when their gambles don’t pay off. In fact, viewers witnessed several instances where the pawn store employees purchased fakes, stolen goods, and received bad advice from their “experts.”
But nothing compares to how much money the crew lost when they purchased a 1962 Lincoln Continental in the very first season.
History of the Lincoln Continental
Rick purchased a Mafia-favorite vehicle, a Lincoln Continental, with rear-hinged doors (suicide doors). After forking over $9,500 for the vehicle, Rick knew that he had to repair the car to make it at least presentable to potential buyers or, if all else fails, for auction.
The cost of repairing and restoring the Lincoln Continental added up to around $15,000. In total, they spent around $24,500, but they were expecting to get a lot more for the classic car. However, not everything the Pawn Stars crew plans comes to fruition.
