A $2.6-million Thank You Gesture

Although he moved to the Timberwolves following the end of the championship season, he returned to the Mavs in 2016, playing for four more seasons until the end of 2020. Sadly, Barea and new star franchise player, Luka Dončić, lost in the first round in a 4-2 series against the LA Clippers.

Following the end of the 2019-20 season, Mark agreed to sign Barea for one more year at $2.6 million, knowing well that Barea had played his final season for the Mavs. After signing the contract, the Mavs released him from their roster, but he still gets to keep the money.

We only hope that the Puerto Rican NBA champion gets to play at least one more season for another franchise before closing the door on his professional career for good.
